The morning between sky and earth
… opening the zipper of my sleeping bag to a new morning … with anxiety in my heart, not allowing myself to take a fast glance around … “No, nooooooooo!!!” The pain takes all my hopes away…again fog, humidity and snow all around me … I can’t feel my legs! Like two frozen logs, just lying there, not moving, like they are not even a part of me, like all this is happening to someone else, someone else is lying there, in this icy coffin – hope awakes, maybe this is all just a terrible dream. Realization follows: “I am still here, trapped in the coffin of ice!” |

After Tomaž finally realized, that the straight solid ground beneath his feet is not another dream, and that the nightmare of a failed rescue mission will not come true, he is recuperating quickly. When he managed to drag himself off the marshy field, where he experienced his first contact with the solid ground after 10 days, to the tents, he first reached for some pancakes. |

Two Pakistani army helicopters rescued Tomaž Humar from the Rupal wall in the early morning hours, where he had been trapped for six days. Tomaž is currently at base camp in care of doctor Anda. He is a bit frozen up but other than that he seems to be out of danger. |
